An Obstacle to Cooking

Generally, I enjoy cooking. I don’t enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy eating, but it is a hobby of mine and I try to make time for it as often as possible. Cooking is something that makes me feel accomplished. It gives me a sense of pride. There’s nothing like eating something delicious that you’ve actually created yourself! But there is something that deters me from cooking, and that something is, cleaning. Continue reading

How to spruce up your Christmas Tree…

Our Christmas tree looks a little sparce. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful with the lights and the ornaments, but there is definitely something missing. At first, I thought we just needed more ornaments. But after adding a few more, I realized that wasn’t it. The thought of those big strands of tinsel that were so popular in the 80’s really didn’t thrill me (I mean, who really uses tinsel anymore?) so I wondered, what could I add to spruce it up a bit? Picking out the Christmas tree

Tis’ the season to pick out a Christmas tree! And for us, it’s our first Christmas tree as a married couple. I was so excited for the bonding experience of picking out a tree together, and for getting it all set up in our apartment. However, when we arrived at the farm, I quickly realized that the Christmas tree Matt had envisioned was quite different than the one I had envisioned. What should have been a happy occassion, quickly turned a bit tense as we argued over which tree to get. I felt sorry for the guy helping us. Continue reading

I don’t have children so….

Happy Halloween everyone! I loved seeing all the costumes of the trick or treaters yesterday! I don’t have children, and I’m getting a little too old to go out trick or treating anymore (although if I feel the urge to dress up there is usually a Halloween party going on somewhere I could always crash). But anyway, since I don’t have children and I would feel slightly ridiculous dressing up myself – I came up with the next best thing… Continue reading

The Puppy Debate

I love dogs. I love them so much that sometimes I have to remind myself that they are not actually human. Growing up in Asia, we always had at least 2 dogs, usually more (they are not real big on neutering or spaying pups over there). There were so many stray dogs roaming the streets, and sometimes one would just wind up on our door step and my mom would take it in. My mom is probably more dog obsessed than I am, and probably part of the reason why I love them so much – a combination of learned behavior and genetics. Continue reading

Dinner for a boring Wednesday

So I’ve always been a little obsessed with food. If you turn on my TV, the Food Network channel (or the Cooking channel) is almost always playing. I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants almost more than anything else. And I’m sure I look forward to each meal a little more than most non-obsessed food people do. Even when I am full I somehow manage to clean my plate and you better believe if for some reason I can’t finish what’s on my plate, I will be getting a takeaway bag for later (for a midnight snack or something). Side Note: This is my one qualm with countries outside the US – I love to travel, but I hate that I can’t ask for a takeaway bag, so I am forced to finish my meal at the restaurant, even though this is very rarely a problem anyway. I just happen to gain a lot of weight on vacations. Continue reading
