I first heard of the Daniel Fast from a woman at my church. She had just completed it and said it really made her feel amazing. I didn’t think much of it. In fact, I thought, wow good for her, but I could never do it. I am not the fasting (or dieting) type. I try to practice portion control, but that’s as far as it goes. But for some reason, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Daniel Fast and proceeded to google it at work the next day.
It looked tough. It’s basically a Vegan diet without carbs, sugar, or alcohol. So, really, all you can eat are fruits and vegetables and certain whole grains (like brown rice, which I am not a fan of). The fast is supposed to last 21 days. So why, you may ask, would I ever even consider doing something like this? It’s so NOT me. I think about food A LOT. When I am eating, I’m usually planning my next meal. I love going out to eat, talking about food, reading about food, watching people cook, and all other things related to glorious food.
But then I thought, maybe there is something wrong with that? I probably shouldn’t be focusing on food THAT much and recently I’ve been eating REALLY badly. So, I’m giving it a go. Today is day 1. I’m hoping that not only will the fast make me more aware of what I am eating, but that it will be a good thing spiritually, emotionally and mentally as well. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Side note. I did some bulk shopping at Trader Joe’s last night and the girl at the checkout counter says, “Wow, you eat really healthy”. If only she knew…
